My Essential VS Code Extensions

Cover

Visual Studio Code is one of the most popular editors among developers. It’s lightweight, fast, and above all, highly customizable thanks to its vast extension ecosystem.

Over time, I’ve tested countless extensions, some framework-specific, others more general. Today, I’m sharing the ones I consider my essentials, the ones I always install first on every setup.

Dependi – Smart dependency manager

Keeping dependencies up to date can quickly become a hassle, especially in large projects.

Dependi makes it simple: you can see outdated packages, check for vulnerabilities, and update them in no time.

💡 It saves me time and ensures my projects stay secure and up to date.

Error Lens – Errors at a glance

Error Lens : no longer need to dig through the console to find errors. They appear directly in the editor, right next to your code, with clear visual highlights.

💡 Debugging becomes faster and more visual, making it impossible to miss an error.

Git Graph – Visualize your commits

Navigating Git history can be confusing, especially with multiple branches.

Git Graph provides a clean, visual representation of your commits, branches, and merges.

💡 It helps me quickly understand a project’s history and easily compare changes between commits.

Prettier – Format your code

A true classic 🔥

Prettier automatically formats your code, keeping it consistent: indentation, quotes, semicolons, and more.

💡 The result, I can focus on what really matters : coding.

Todo Tree – Organize your TODOs

We’ve all left "// TODO" comments in our code.

With Todo Tree : they’re no longer forgotten: the extension gathers them all in a dedicated sidebar view.

💡 It helps me stay organized and ensures I don’t miss important improvements or tasks.

Supermaven – My favorite AI copilot

I’ve tested several AI copilots, but Supermaven is the one that convinced me the most. Its code suggestions are smarter, faster, and more relevant than most alternatives.
The Pro version at $10/month is in my opinion a better investment compared to others.

💡 It boosts my productivity with high-quality suggestions while staying lightweight.

In conclusion ✅

These are my essential VS Code extensions, tools I use every day no matter the project.
They help me write cleaner code, stay productive, and simplify my workflows without depending on any specific technology.
